Penwith Radio (Sam, Martin, Joe)

Julian Horner at Penwith Radio is very pleased with the influx of young talent for his radio station. Martin and Joe are now co-hosting a regular broadcast aimed at attracting a younger audience to the community radio station which broadcasts online. Martin began by observing a broadcast and being interviewed about local clubs and restaurants so he became a reviewer and whats on expert. The next week he got more involved and drove the desk, changed the music and used the jingles. He then hosted his own show. He now has a regular slot at 6-8pm on a Friday playing hip-hop, R 'n' B and funky house.

Evidence and a journal is required by the start of the academic year. Sam is busy editing together a two hour show. The first hour is rock based and the second focuses on house music. He has links in between songs which need some diting so that they are more audible. Sam is getting used to Logic Pro and has recorded the links in a studio. He has given a demo broadcast to his partner to respond to.

Interacting with a radio station is a good choice as it can lead to work experience and develops links with the community. It may also provide a life long hobby or lead to a career. It definitely allows you to develop skills in presentation, interviewing and communication. Ever conscious of an audience it allows you to be self-critical and improve speaking and listening skills.
